"In writing the score for Terry Gilliam’s Doctor Parnassus we sought to create music as timeless and archaic as the immortal Doctor himself."
- Mychael Danna
Director Terry Gilliams’ Worlds of candy canes, mile high ladders, giant cobras come and go and transform into other wonders. To underline the dream-like states and fantastical elements of Gilliam’s cinematography, Jeff and Mychael produced a breathtaking and surprising post-modern score. Tangos, Waltzes, Tibetan monastic chant, Mediaeval Music and a greasy noir-ish saxophone tune for Tom Wait's characterization of Satan all mix together with a full orchestra and a couple of show-stopping songs.
The brothers last collaborated with Terry Gilliam on his 2005 film Tideland. As Michael Danna remarks: “This is our second collaboration with Terry, and so we were prepared for the madness, mayhem and just plain fun that comes with working with his boundless creative spirit.”
The film received widespread critical acclaim and features an incredible cast that includes Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and Heath Ledger in his final film performance.
Previous scores from Mychael Danna include The Ice Storm, Vanity Fair, 8MM, Capote, Monsoon Wedding, Little Miss Sunshine, The Nativity Story and The Time Traveler’s Wife. He scored films for acclaimed directors such as Atom Egoyan, Ang Lee, Scott Hicks, Mira Nair and Joel Schumacher. Previous Jeff Danna scores include Resident Evil, Apocalypse, Silent Hill and Fracture.

"…Dannas’ work is unreservedly enjoyable… They’re right in tune with the film’s bizarrro theatricality, a sense of the vainglorious that’s played with both flourish and intelligence."
- Film Music Magazine
"There are so many wonderful themes in here that will give you goosebumbs… a joy to listen to from start to finish."
- Sci-Fi Online(10/10)
"When they (Dannas) work together, they seem to bring the best out of each other
- some sort of cosmic sibling inspiration - and that is certainly the case here"
